DISCUSSION
European Obesity Academy is a two and a half years course for young doctors with a special interest
in obesity research and treatment.
The aim of this education and research program is to develop the next genera-tion of leaders within
the therapeutic area of morbid obesity to the highest standard of expertise. This requires basic
knowledge of obesity as well as scientific education and leadership training. Another aim is to create
an Europe-wide obesity network.
EOA program are divided into six meetings with three main areas of focus:
• Obesity
• Science & Research
• Leadership
The local host will decide the content of the obesity section, within a framework set by the
organizing committee. The scientific section will be arranged jointly by the local host and the
organizing committee. Karolinska Institute and Karolinska University Hospital will be responsible for
the scientific program.
The focus of the course is on high quality education – the board and lodgings will be of an adequate
standard.
The benefits of the program are:
• Access to an extensive network of senior and junior doctors from more than 10 European countries
• Planning and conduct of clinical and experimental research.
• In addition to the meetings the chance to visit hospitals as an observer, private study, and
participation in research projects.
• The program will be concluded with an international scientific meeting at which the projects will be
presented. Projects should preferably be published in scientific journals. |
